Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complex but well-loved poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible game, has increased in popularity so amazingly.
Omaha hi/low begins like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to every player. A round of betting follows where players can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is known as the flop. Another sequence of betting ensues. After all the players have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. a further sequence of betting follows at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants will need to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is where a few players often get flustered. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, in which the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must use exactly 3 cards on the board, and exactly two hole cards. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the identical concept in almost every poker game.
The lower hand is more complicated, but really free’s up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that can be put together, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there’s no lower hand available, the high hand takes the entire pot.
It may seem difficult at the outset, following a few rounds you will be able to get the fundamental subtleties of play with ease. Since you have players betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha Hi-Lo offers an exciting range of wagering choices and seeing that you have many individuals battling for the high, and several shooting for the low. If you love a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it is worth your time to compete in Omaha 8 or better.
