Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to achieve closing poker table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best gamblers in the world. While playing web poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus often competes in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Gus generally buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Gus is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy in.

Playing for the minimum takes most of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be 1 of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full dollar value. I believe television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest poker players in the world could be players you have never heard of. Gus can be seen betting on net poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in big stakes omaha hi-low and hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in money rounds?
