Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five in which he loved participating in various card games at a young age. He found himself getting really competitive in these card games while competing against his father. After finishing high school, Howard decided to place higher education on hold for a little while and moved to New York City to participate in some big-time chess. While competing in chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s 1st two years were tough as he would play extensive hours and do not win most times. He made some extra cash by becoming an assistant for the poker players. He judged he might better his game by adjusting his life outside of poker. He brought about an effort to get more rest and concentrate more on the game.
The real advancement in his game happened when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable gamblers would often challenge each other. Howard had access into some of the greatest minds in chess. With their help, he would hone his strategic thinking techniques. He applied these strategic ideas to the game of NL texas hold’em.
Howard Lederer also assisted his sister Annie Duke master poker. Annie Duke was an excellent student of poker as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the correct choice. Howard told Annie to head out to Sin City and compete in the World Series of Poker competition. Annie Duke is one of the strongest female players the poker world today. Howard relocated to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and played cash games for the subsequent 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, he made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
