Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 where he liked betting on various card games at a young age. He discovered himself getting very aggressive in these card games as he was competing against his father. After finishing high school, Howard decided to place higher education on hold for a bit and moved away to New York City to participate in some big-time chess. While playing chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s initial 2 years were tough as he would play countless hours and lose most times. He earned some additional cash by being an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He theorized he could boost his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He made an attempt to get more sleep and concentrate even more on the game.
The actual improvement in his abilities began when he began playing at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable players would often play against each other. He was able to access a number of the foremost players in chess. With their assistance, Howard would hone his strategic thinking abilities. He used these strategy concepts in the game of No-Limit Texas Holdem.
Howard Lederer also assisted his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. She was a great student of poker as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper decision. He told Annie Duke to move out to Sin City and play in the World Series of Poker competition. Annie is one of the best female players the poker world has ever seen. He moved to Sin City in 1993 and played cash games for the successive decade. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, Howard made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
